How Do I Know If I Have Enough Money for My First Apartment With No Credit?
Finding the perfect first apartment is an exciting time, but the dream can be shattered if a landlord turns you down because of no credit history. Apartment managers look at a variety of factors before accepting you as a tenant, not just your credit. Your rent-to-income ratio will be a large factor in the landlord's decision, as will character references and employment history. Some apartment managers require applicants with no credit history to have a co-signer before renting the unit. While the co-signer does not have to live in the apartment with you, he must agree to pay the rent if you do not.

Add up all of the money you have available. Property owners typically require you pay the first and last month's rent and a security deposit before allowing tenants to move in.
2Call the local power and gas company where you will rent and ask about the process to have your services connected. They may want a deposit if you have never had services in your name in the past.
3Call or visit different apartments and find out how much it costs to move in and what the rental requirements are.
4Tell the manager upfront that you do not have a credit history. Offer to pay a larger security deposit or provide a co-signer.
5Subtract the amount you need for the apartment and services from the total amount of cash you have available.
6Calculate your monthly expenses by adding everything you have to spend each month. Subtract this amount from your income to make sure you can afford to pay your rent each month.
