How to Get on Section 8 Housing in Las Vegas
Unlike traditional public housing offered to low-income residents, the Section 8 program allows you to choose your own rental home from any private landlord in the Section 8 program. To qualify for housing assistance, you must meet income and other basic requirements. Once approved, the Las Vegas Housing Authority will pay for a portion of your rent each month. You can apply through the Housing Authority's lottery system.

Contact a Housing Authority Office in Clark County to determine if your income meets the requirements for Section 8 housing. Your income must fall below the "very low income" threshold determined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
2Complete a lottery application at the Housing Authority Office during the time frame the office accepts applications. The Housing Authorities in Las Vegas use a lottery system to select applicants for Section 8. The Housing Authority office will open the lottery system throughout the year. Local news and radio stations will post the dates when you can apply.
3Complete a full application for Section 8 assistance when the housing authority office draws your lottery ticket number. You can obtain a full application at the housing authority office.
4Complete an interview with a housing authority office caseworker. The caseworker will evaluate your current income and your lifestyle. You may need to supply documents such as recent paystubs, proof of residency or ID to the caseworker.
5Locate an apartment or rental home that accepts Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers. You will need to get approval from the landlord and sign a full lease before you start receiving Section 8 funding.
