How to Find Flatmates
It's not always cheap to live in a house or apartment, especially if you live in a city. Flatmates are an excellent way to bring your cost of living down; by sharing communal areas in a two-or-more bedroom flat, you can pay less per person than you would in studio apartments. However, in order to do this you need to find someone to live in your flat with you. There are a number of ways you can do this, ranging from the Internet to the newspaper to friends of friends and essentially any other method of communicating with people.

Establish exactly what is important to you in a flatmate. Are you clean or dirty? Do you have a casual attitude towards bills? Do you want cable TV? These are all questions you should ask yourself in order to ensure you get a suitable flatmate.
2Look at your circle of friends. Someone in this group may make an ideal flatmate. However, you need to remember that just because someone is a good friend does not mean they will make a good flatmate. Indeed, the two aren't really connected at all. So, if you are thinking of asking a friend to flat with you, ensure that they would be acceptable to live with -- are they reasonably clean? Do they party all the time? There's no right or wrong answer to these questions, but they should be the same answers you would give.
3Ask your friends if they know people. Friends of friends make excellent flatmates because they have already been "vetted."
4Post an ad on the internet or other widely-read public area, such as your university's notice board (if you are a student).
5Interview flatmates using the criteria from Step 1. You should ask them questions that indicate whether they meet this criteria -- rather than "are you clean," you could ask "how often should the bathroom be cleaned?" These will show whether you and your flatmate are compatible.
