How to Find Out if You Qualify to Rent an Apartment
If you are considering an opportunity to rent a particular apartment, you can speak with the leasing agent about special incentives and unit availability. Before you can sign a lease, youll need to meet certain income and credit qualifications. Your completion of a rental application will enable the leasing agent to determine details such as your household size, if you have pets, your rental history and whether youre qualified to obtain the unit you want.

Call the leasing office for the apartment youre interested in renting. Inquire about features youll need, such as a two-bedroom or a three-bedroom apartment unit. Ask the leasing agent about the rental rates for your desired unit type. Get details about the leasing terms, application fees, deposits and other items youll need to rent an apartment.
2Review your monthly budget to determine if you can afford the apartment rental, along with utilities and your other monthly expenses.
3Order your credit report online. Check for items that reflect erroneous information. Use the Annual Credit Report website to submit an online dispute form for items that report incorrectly. Pay off any past-due debts or balances owed to apartment management companies, as a favorable credit standing could improve your ability to qualify for an apartment rental.
4Arrange a time to meet with the leasing agent to complete a rental application. Take items such as the application fee, proof of your income, identification and rental references to your appointment. Complete the rental application, as well as any other required forms.
5Call the leasing agent several days after you submit the rental application to find out if youre qualified to rent the apartment.
