How to Qualify a Home to Be a Section 8 House in Collin County, Texas
The Section 8 housing choice voucher program can be a good source of tenants for a private landlord. Your local public housing authority will advertise the home for free. Once your rental unit is approved for use by Section 8 tenants, you have a guaranteed source for a portion of the rent each month, and the peace of mind of a year-long lease. If you want to qualify your rental unit in Collin County, you must go through an application process.

Contact your local public housing authority. A list of the Collin County Public Housing Agencies, or PHAs, and their contact information can be found on the website of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
2Ask to have your property listed as available for Section 8 tenants. Some PHAs contract with outside services, such as Go Section 8, for their online listings
3Interview and select a prospective tenant. Ask him for paperwork requesting that your unit be approved for Section 8. Complete this and return it to the PHA's administrative office.
4Schedule a visit by the PHA inspector, who will complete a worksheet describing the condition of your property and any remedial work needed to bring it into compliance with Department of Housing and Urban Development rules.
5Complete any work requested. This is usually basic maintenance to make the unit habitable and safe, and could include items such as the installation of smoke alarms and fire extinguishers, or repair jobs like fixing loose banisters or missing window locks.
6Execute a lease with the tenant and submit it for approval by the tenant's counselor at the PHA.
7Sign a contract with the PHA that allows you to receive the voucher part of the rent payment through direct deposit.
