How to Find Open Section 8 Vouchers Near Massachusetts
The Section 8 rental subsidy requires a preliminary application. The preliminary application helps housing authorities determine who receives preference, such as those who are homeless, financially burdened or experiencing involuntary displacement. Furthermore, due to the large number of applicants, the preliminary application list only opens at predetermined intervals. Eighty-three housing authorities in Massachusetts alone use a centralized waiting list. Other states in the New England region manage waiting lists at the local level. Finding open Section 8 vouchers takes some time, creativity, patience and diligence.

- 1
Go to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development website. Select "Massachusetts," "New Hampshire," "Vermont," or "Rhode Island" from the "State Info" menu. Contact the public housing authority to ask if the programs is accepting applications.
2Check the major New England newspapers. Housing authorities place public notifications in newspapers when they open waiting lists. Newspapers, such as the Abington Mariner, the Conway Daily Sun or the Barrington Times, provide timely notices when applicants can apply.
